Job Description:

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll & Accounts Officer to join their growing finance team. The successful candidate will support the day-to-day accounting and payroll function, assisting with financial record-keeping, payroll processing, reconciliations, and compliance-related tasks. This role is ideally suited to someone who has commenced, or is looking to commence, their ACCA studies and is eager to develop a strong foundation in finance and accounting.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Administration

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and accounting documentation.
  • Record financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliations.
  • Maintain organised records of invoices, receipts, payroll documentation, and supporting financial records.
  • Support client onboarding activities, including the setup of accounting records and initial data entry.

Payroll Administration

  • Process payroll accurately and within agreed deadlines for assigned entities and clients.
  • Ensure the correct calculation of salaries, overtime, bonuses, allowances, deductions, leave, and statutory contributions.
  • Process payroll amendments, including new starters, terminations, salary adjustments, and employee status changes.
  • Prepare payslips, payroll summaries, and routine payroll reports.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to collect payroll-related information, including attendance and leave records.
  • Respond to payroll-related queries in a professional and timely manner.

Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts and financial reports.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and support the reconciliation of payroll control accounts.
  • Investigate discrepancies and assist with corrective actions where required.

Compliance & Tax

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Support the preparation of corporate tax returns and related filings.
  • Assist with payroll-related statutory submissions, including tax and social security reporting.
  • Monitor key filing deadlines and support ongoing compliance requirements.

Audit Support

  • Assist with external audit processes by preparing supporting documentation and reconciliations.
  • Support the preparation of schedules and financial information required by auditors.


Candidate Profile

  • Minimum A-Level standard of education, ideally with a focus on Accounting, or an introductory Diploma in Accounting.
  • ACCA studies commenced or committed to starting.
  • Previous office or finance-related experience will be considered an asset, although full training will be provided and it is not necessarily necessary to have any previous experience.
  • Willingness to learn and work with accounting and payroll systems, including Xero and Shireburn Indigo.
