Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to take ownership of the AML/CFT framework within a leading Corporate Services and Trustee firm.
This is a highly visible and strategic role at the heart of the business, offering the opportunity to shape the firm's risk and compliance agenda, advise senior leadership, and ensure continued adherence to MFSA and FIAU requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with regulators and play a key role in governance, risk management, and Board-level decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as the appointed MLRO, with overall responsibility for the firm's AML/CFT framework, controls, and reporting processes.
- Overseeing client onboarding and approval processes, including risk assessments, CDD/EDD reviews, and the assessment of complex ownership structures.
- Monitoring and investigating client activity, including the preparation and submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Maintaining and enhancing key risk assessments, including Business Risk, Jurisdiction Risk, and Sanctions Risk frameworks.
- Serving as the primary point of contact for the MFSA and FIAU, managing regulatory interactions, inspections, and audits.
- Preparing and presenting AML/CFT reports to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
- Providing practical and commercially sound regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Driving AML/CFT awareness and training initiatives, fostering a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
- Updating the Company's Business Risk Assessment and completing regulatory submissions, including the Risk Evaluation Questionnaire.
- Monitoring regulatory developments, including FATF recommendations, EU directives, and sanctions updates.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in an MLRO or senior AML/CFT position within a regulated environment.
- MFSA-approved (PQD) with a strong understanding of Maltese AML/CFT legislation and FIAU Implementing Procedures.
- In possession of a valid work permit.
- Previous experience within corporate services, financial services, or a similar regulated sector.
- Strong technical expertise in financial crime risk and the assessment of complex client structures.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to balance regulatory obligations and business objectives.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging at Board and regulatory level.
- Demonstrates a high degree of integrity, independence, and sound professional judgement.
