Our client is seeking an experienced and high-calibre Direct Tax Compliance Specialist to lead, develop, and enhance their corporate tax service offering. This senior-level position combines strategic business development, complex direct tax advisory work, and risk oversight, while playing a key role in mentoring and developing a growing team of tax professionals.


Acting as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal stakeholders, the successful candidate will take ownership of delivering technical excellence across Maltese corporate income tax compliance, statutory filings, and international reporting obligations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Support the development and execution of the firm's direct tax strategy in line with broader business objectives.
  • Drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across tax service delivery.
  • Promote the use of tax technology and automation tools to enhance accuracy, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.

Tax Advisory & Transactions

  • Provide expert tax advice on corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border investment structures.
  • Advise clients on transfer pricing policies and documentation in line with OECD principles and international best practices.
  • Act as the primary tax advisor for key clients, delivering practical, commercially focused guidance.
  • Monitor developments in both local and international tax legislation, including OECD BEPS initiatives, Pillar Two, CRS, FATCA, and other regulatory frameworks, ensuring clients and colleagues remain informed of relevant implications.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Oversee the preparation and review of corporate tax returns, reporting obligations, and statutory filings.
  • Ensure full compliance with Maltese tax legislation and international reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain tax risk management frameworks, promoting strong governance and compliance standards.
  • Implement and refine internal tax policies, procedures, and best-practice frameworks to ensure consistency and efficiency across the department.

Client Service & Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through the delivery of proactive and value-driven tax advice.
  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings and collaborate with other departments, including corporate services, accounting, and advisory teams.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, seminars, and professional forums to strengthen market presence and brand visibility.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals.
  • Manage team workloads, performance reviews, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning through training, coaching, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Strategic Growth & Thought Leadership

  • Contribute to the growth of the firm's tax practice by identifying new business opportunities and market trends.
  • Support the preparation of thought leadership articles, client updates, presentations, and technical publications that showcase the firm's expertise.


Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Law, Taxation, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Significant experience in direct tax advisory, compliance, and planning, ideally within a professional services or financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of Maltese tax legislation, international tax developments, and regulatory reporting obligations.
